중국인 L2 한국어 학습자의 화용 능력 발달 -요청 화행과 거절 화행 실현을 중심으로-

This study investigated the development of pragmatic competence of L2 Korean learners in the longitudinal frame. The study employed 20 students at the intermediate level who just arrived in Korea to continue their study. To conduct this study, `leaving message on the answering machine` task was developed using computer program. and collected the verbal data of request speech act and denial speech act of the participants. Overall, the participants developed pragmatic competence as their study continued. The rate of increasement showed rapid for three month at the beginning of the study, but turned slow or went back at the end of study. In terms of speech act, while the development of request speech act continued from the beginning to the end, that of denial speech act took place at the beginning and became fossilized later. And the difference following to the proficiency revealed as the higher level group showed continued development till the end of the study comparing to the lower level group. The lower level group showed development and backsliding alternatively during the period of study. (Kyung Hee University)

Since the education for overseas Korean language learners is mainly focused on communicative daily expressions, their reading is confined to `reading a Korean textbook`. Thus `Extensive reading` is to supplement the insufficiency of reading education for them. This research looks into the reading state, cognizance of extensive reading, and the comparative application between Korean textbooks` level for native Korean learners(READ Measure) and that for Korean School Learners in the US. The research reveals that the criteria for teachers and learners` preference to the choice of reading textbooks are `interest` and `learner`s level` and that genre is that `Korean folk tales` are favored by them. And the average score for the comprehension of Korean textbooks by READ Measure is 54.2% and 2.57(out of 5) for the test. Therefore, it is necessary to develop `Learn to read series` with simplification and elaboration for overseas Korean language learners. (International Center for Korean Culture)

The purpose of this research is to suggest contents, class models and examples of related subjects to educate Korean culture as Korean language classes are increasing in Cambodia while using Korean TV Programs. Education for Korean culture will not be a supplementary idea to help with improving Korean language, but as an independent idea to recognize diverse cultures and to widen the understanding the concept of mutual culture. To achieve the purpose, surveys of demands were given to Korean language teachers and students in Royal University of Phnom Penh. Based on the result, exemplary class was presented in `Korean False Promise Greeting Expressions` with William(1983) model to appropriate Korean cultural education. (Ewha Womans University)

The present paper aims at proving sign-like behavior of affixes by focusing on one of the semantic properties of derivational affixes, namely, synonymy. To prove the fact that derivational affixes get into synonymic relationship with other derivational affixes within the language, I first collected synonymous derivational affixes with the meaning `having` and `without` from Korean and Uzbek. After organizing affixes into pairs, I applied two out of three synonymy-related tests, the opposite test and substitution test, which were originally proposed by Ullmann(1962) and reintroduced in Lim(2008) to test synonymy of lexemes. Applying these tests to derivational affixes that can be attached to an identical stem showed that (1) majority of affixes in both languages can be in synonymic relationship with other affixes, which indicates that affixes can have semantic properties just like lexemes and thus be viewed as signs and that (2) along with the universality of synonymy, derivational affixes can display individual properties when the opposite test is applied to them. 한국어 재귀사 교육을 위한 문법 내용 연구 -`자기`를 중심으로-

This paper seeks to provide the grammatical content needed to teach the Korean reflexive jagi by combining an analysis of learners` errors with research findings in the fields of Korean linguistics and Korean language education. The analysis of learners` errors suggests that grammar instruction should cover the following points: (1) restrictions on the person of the antecedent, (2) the honorific form of jagi, (3) the distance between jagi and the antecedent, (4) the distribution of jagi in the sentence, (5) the difference between jagi and personal pronouns, and (6) potentially confusing aspects of indirect speech. These six points are then sorted into the grammatical content needed to teach jagi, which is divided into meaning and usage, construction information, restrictions, intensive/supplemental information, and similar grammar. The objective of this is to provide instructors with material for teaching jagi that they can easily adapt to the sequence of grammar that is being taught in the classroom. (Sogang University)

외국인 학부생의 학술적 글쓰기를 위한 `요약하기` 교육 방안에 대한 연구

This study aims to develop the teaching method of summarizing in foreign university student`s academic writing. The summarization is the fundamental and useful function in academic activity including students` work. It is hard for foreign students to understand the context related with their major, so there should be some guide to lead appropriate summary using the whole logical connection. Through the review and analysis of previous research this study examined the principle, program of teaching summarizing, and the contents. The instructional contents of summarizing could be as follows. First, students should get the authentic materials of their department and apply in academic activity. Second, student`s outcome as summary could be submitted as academic work. Third, teachers should offer proper texts for excercise. Fourth, students should develop the strategy to understand the topic. Fifth, the program should not only suggest the concept of summary, features, the goal, but also include various tasks and exercises. Sixth, the curriculum should be differentiated according to student`s language level. The instructional method of summarizing could be as follows. First, students should recognize the concept and principle of summarizing. Second, the goal and activity of each task should be decided in the class. Third, students should get the skill of comprehension about the text. Fourth, students should practice the drills for expression. Fifth, students should receive the feedback of peers and teachers. Sixth, students should understand the summary is a text having a logical construction. Finally, this study developed the curriculum available for the class of summarizing. (Korea University)

This paper investigates the formulation and implementation of < Model 1 > in practicum class for Korean as a foreign language. Practicum class for Korean is essential in increasing teaching competences and securing practical experience in the field, which has been leading to a continuous discussion of the use of effective teaching measures. Nonetheless, the problems and issues a lecturer may face in designing and running the practicum class have not received sufficient attention. The aim of this article is formed based on this observation, calling for a specialized curriculum in each degree course. This article thus reviews the management of practicum classes for Korean as a foreign language in general and suggests improvements. The importance and necessity of KFL practicum class research is dealt with first in the second section. The third section first investigates the need to define and standardize the use of major terms in the discussion of < Model 1 > of KFL practicum class, and then details the research methods used in this study. The fourth section clarifies three concepts that constitute < Model 1 > in KFL practicum class; classroom observation, simulated instruction and actual teaching practice and how they are closely related. In the process, it was found that certain issues may arise due to the fact that courses in the Graduate School of Education are held at night, and that the students` demands as well as varied situations they are facing should be considered. Accordingly, the management of the practicum class should be managed flexibly, from setting the timeline, liaising with organizations to defining the roles of all participants, teaching methods and evaluation criteria. Practicum classes for KFL is reliable only when it is tightly coupled with the education field, and its successful management cannot solely rely on the competences of the lecturer. This article urges further investigation of concrete and realistic issues in KFL practicum classes, with a focus on the issues Korean teacher education institutions face. (Anyang University)

온라인 강의를 활용한 해외 대학의 블렌디드 러닝 사례 연구 -체코 찰스대학교 한국학과를 중심으로-

The purpose of this study is to examine how the application of blended learning through VOD is being managed in Korean classes in foreign universities. In order to do this, theories of blended learning were examined and models of blended learning applied VOD were formed. Also, at Charles University in Czech, actual cases of blended learning lesson plans and lesson structures and furthermore the perception of native Korean professor, non-native Korean professor and students were the focal point of examination. Those results and the learning effects were perceived positively by native Korean, non-native Korean professors and students and VOD contents and structure was also found to be positively perceived. However, there was a partial difference regarding lecture plan`s focal points and blended learning details. This paper helps with how to teach blended learning through VOD Korean lectures abroad in detail with lesson modules and teaching methods. (Kyung Hee Cyber University)

이 연구는 제1언어와 제2언어의 언어처리 전략을 조사하기 위한 연구로서, 관계사절 중의문에 대한 해결 방안을 관찰하는 방법을 통해 한국어 화자와 영어 사용이 지배적인 상황에 놓인 영어와 한국어 능통 화자를 비교하고 있습니다. 연구에서는 한국어 지배적인 실험자들은 forward transfer를 보였고, 영어지배적인 실험 대상들은 backward transfer를 보였는데 이는 이 실험 대상들이 영어 지배적이든 한국어 지배적이든 상관없이 지배적인 언어의 분석전략을 사용했다는 것을 보여주고 있습니다. 이는 언어의 기간과 양이 실험자들의 분석전략 발달에 직접적으로 영향을 주었다는 것을 의미한다고 해석할 수 있다. 즉 이 연구를 통해 영어를 제2언어로 배우는 학습자들은 universal account로 설명될 수 없다고 볼 수 있다. 그리고 최근의 연구에서 언어우위성(language dominance)과 언어능숙도를 충분히 구별하고 있지 않다는 점을 지적할 수 있다. 캄보디아인 한국어 학습자의 시제 습득 연구

The aim of this study was to see the acquisition of Korean tenses among 90 Cambodian Korean learners. In Korean, time is represented through tense morphemes, whereas in Cambodian, an isolating language, certain vocabulary represents the time. Therefore, Cambodian Korean learners may have difficulties learning tense morphemes as the two languages have little morphological similarity. Especially, Cambodian learners can have struggles understanding deictic projections where the items are interpreted differently according to the discourse context. By separating the Korean tenses whose basic meanings coincide with the actual time referred by their tense morphemes and those that do not, the study examined the learners` acquisition of tenses. For this purpose, we have three following research questions; a) Do Cambodian Korean learners show different levels of tense acquisition according to their levels of proficiency?; b) Is there a correlation between the acquisitions of tenses according to their types (i.e. whether their basic meanings and the actual time referred to are the same or not)?; c) With which type do the learners have most difficulties in acquiring? For the research question a), we put the learners into two different groups by their TOPIK scores, and ran a t-test for independent samples. For question b), we computed the Pearson`s product-moment correlation coefficient for each type of items, and for c), we examined the level of acquisition by types, using the mean value of each item. Results showed that the level of proficiency does not affect the acquisition of tenses significantly. Moreover, the correlation between the acquisitions of tenses according to their types appeared to be very weak. This suggests that acquiring the basic meanings of tenses does not imply the acquisition of variable tense items according to their contexts of discourse. Especially, the most challenging appeared to be the type where the present tense refers to the past or vice versa. However, the level of understanding for the present tense referring to the future was exceptionally high, as it has be explicitly taught in class. This suggests the impact of explicitly teaching the items that are interpreted from the context of discourse. Therefore, the pragmatic items should be taught more explicitly. (Ewha Womans University)
