The purpose of this study is to identify whether the so-called `kwanhyeongsa(관형사)` in Korean should be seen as one of the separate type of parts of speech from a typological perspective. At the same time, the existing `kwanhyeongsa` words should be given a detailed resetting for their parts of speech. To reach the above mentioned purposes, the classification standard of parts of speech which is the basis for all the discussions about parts of speech was firstly researched in this paper. Secondly, the existing `kwanhyeongsa` words were compared with Chinese and Japanese. As a result of the comparison, it is not necessary to categorize `kwanhyenongsa` separately. It makes more sense to classify most of the `kwanhyenogsa` words as adjectives, pronouns or numerals according to their own meaning features. Also some of them can be identified as adverbs. In addition, words provided with features such as [TIME], [ORDER] or [DIRECTION] can be seen as elements of words but not words. (Ewha Womans University)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of presenting vocabulary in Korean language education. For this purpose, twenty Korean learners were presented with synonyms and topic related words in order, and then the results were compared and verified. As a result of statistical analysis on the evaluation, it was found that it is more effective to group them together or present them in random order rather than presenting synonyms together. Through this study, we confirmed that the interference effects due to similar meanings affect the actual vocabulary learning, and insisted that it is necessary to fully consider the interference effect in vocabulary education. The purpose of this study is to propose a method of developing a writing textbook focused on a discourse synthesis task for the writing education of foreign undergraduates. The discourse synthesis task is proposed by Spivey, which is the process of reading several texts and producing their own texts related to the reading. The essential writing skill required for academic texts is `a skill to read reference and appropriately quote the necessary content in one`s writing`. In this regard, the discourse synthesis task is the most appropriate writing task to improve academic writing skills. In this paper, based on the discussions of previous studies on discourse synthesis and writing knowledge, the principles and goals of the textbook were set to focus on discourse synthesis. Also, the curriculum of discourse synthesis was proceduralized and subdivided into the topics for each unit. The contents of the unit consist of six steps, “Introduction, Exploration, Check up, Practice 1, Practice 2, Self assessment” which is introduction, presentation, practice, production and wrap up. 한글학교 교사를 위한 인증제 프로그램 구현 방안

This study aims to develop the program named `the certification progress for the teachers at Korean Language School`, which is prepared to improve the professionalism of the teachers working at Korean Language Schools. The number of the Korean Language Schools, the teachers and the learners becomes more and more every year. Most of all, the learners gets more various including children, teenagers and adults. Due to this, it seems to require more advanced professionalism which reflects the universality as a teacher and the specialty as a Korean Language School. This paper aims to develop the online training used for the teachers at Korean Language Schools, and contains the following sections. In chapter 2, we will try to find the implications to the online training progresses formed both abroad and Korea after reviewing the training status of Korean Language teachers. In chapter 3, we conducted a demand survey to the teachers at Korean Language Schools in order to satisfy the learners as soon as possible after understanding their situation. Based on this, in chapter 4 we will develop the certification progress program which reflects the specialty as a Korean Language School and the universality as a Korean teacher. And here, the considered factors are teachers, contents and environments. As a result in chapter 5, the certification progress for the teachers at Korean Language Schools will be specified by section1 and section2 according to teachers, and educated contents. 초급 프랑스어권 학습자를 위한 한국어 연어 목록 선정 연구

The purpose of this research is to provide a list of basic Korean collocations for francophone Korean learners classified by topic. A collocation is composed of two words. When studying Korean, francophone learners often encounter problems when guessing the connecting verb. Therefore, francophone learners of Korean often have issues when they extend the use of collocations. And if they do not learn the correct meaning of the collocations, they are likely to encounter difficulties when trying to literally translate French collocations into Korean. In order to help francophone Korean beginners with this collocation problem, this paper has compiled a list of commonly-used collocations by analysing French language materials. These collocations were selected for the frequency of their use in authentic communication. (Sookmyung Women`s University)

This study aims to analyse a correlation between Korean language competence and academic achievements of international students through the mediation analysis using the variables such as `comprehension of lectures`, `learning attitudes`, `class satisfaction`, and `assessment system`. This study found that Korean language competence has a relatively strong correlation with academic achievements, and that there is a mediating path through which Korean language competence give a mediating effect to `comprehension of lectures` and `learning attitudes`, finally to `academic achievements`, meaning that the better proficiency of Korean language brings the better understanding of the class lectures, which ushers foreign students into the higher academic achievements. These findings suggest us that we should encourage foreign students to continue with the leveled up degree because it will both advance the degree of learning attitudes and in return lead towards better academic achievements, and that we should not set back by only focusing on the development of Korean proficiency. This study shows that lowering the Korean language competence standards for international students would not be reasonable. This study leads to the conclusion that college admission officers are required to increase the entrance level of Korean language competence to allow international students to be successful in college. 중국인 학습자의 한국어 재귀사 `자기` 습득

This study investigated the acquisition of the Korean reflexive `caki` by Chinese learners of Korean using a picture-sentence verification task. Korean and Chinese reflexives are different from the English reflexive `-self` in that long distance binding interpretation is allowed (e.g., Maryi thinks that Susanj likes herselfi/j), whereas it is not in English (e.g., Maryi thinks that Susanj likes herself*i/j). However, the Korean reflexive `caki` is different from the Chinese reflexive `ziji` in terms of its preferred interpretation: long distance binding interpretation is more preferred to local binding in Korean, whereas it is the opposite in Chinese. This study focused on how Chinese learners of Korean understand `caki` in Korean compared to Korean native speakers. The results of an experiment based on a picture-sentence verification task with 31 learners (13 intermediate and 18 advanced) and 30 native controls showed that learners accepted local binding interpretation about 70% of the time regardless of their level of general proficiency, whereas native speakers accepted it only 50% of the time. The results indicate the influence of L1 transfer. Other possible influential factors were also discussed such as length of learning and length of residence. There have been various comparative studies on color metaphors and their general conclusion is color is a difficult concept to figure out without culture-specific factors. But, considering Wierzbicka(1990, 2006, 2008)`s suggestion that `color` is not a universal human concept and `seeing` is rather universal phenomenon in all cultures, this paper attempts to outline some alternative aspects to understand color term metaphors based on visual scheme: brightness and saturation. In this paper, to explore visual universals in cross culture, the prototypes and the usages of WHITE, BLACK, YELLOW in English, Korean, Chinese are analyzed. First, it is claimed that the natural prototypes can be categorized into having bright property(light-emitting, reflectivity, illumination, vividness) or not. It is also revealed that good(positive) meanings are based on a manifestation of the bright characteristic of color, bad(negative) values are associated with absence of brightness in all three languages.
