The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the aspect of lexical temporal expression and grammatical temporal expression in the writings of Korean learners. For this purpose, four research hypotheses were established based on the results of previous studies on writings by English learners and the following results were derived. First, does the type of lexical temporal expression appear differently depending on the learning stage? To answer this question, the analysis type was set by referring to the type of lexical temporal expression shown in previous studies, and the frequency was analyzed according to the learning stage. As a result, it appeared in the order of ‘position> duration> quantity’ in most learning stages, so suggesting that the type of lexical temporal expression did not appear differently depending on the learning stage. However, in the intermediate level, the ratio of ‘duration’ type and ‘quantity’ type increased, and it was confirmed that the distribution of the three types was slightly different at each stage. Second, does the lexical temporal expression become more complex as the learning level increases? To answer this question, three different types of frequency are analyzed: 1) the frequency of the number of lexical temporal expressions appearing in one sentence, 2) the complex appearance frequency of lexical temporal expressions appearing in one sentence, 3) and the frequency of deictic and nondeictic means were analyzed. As a result, it was difficult to see that the lexical temporal expression was complicated as the learning stage went up, and in this study, the use of the lexical temporal expression was the most complicated in the level 4. Third, as the frequency of grammatical temporal expression increases, does the frequency of lexical temporal expression decrease? To solve this problem, the frequency of finite verb appearing in the learner data was obtained, and the ratio of lexical temporal expression and finite verb was analyzed. As a result, it was found that the ratio of lexical temporal expression and orthogonal verbs decreased as the learning stage increased. This shows that the use of lexical temporal representation decreases and the use of grammatical temporal representation increases as the learning level increases. Therefore, it can be seen that the use of grammatical temporal expressions affects the use of lexical temporal representations. Fourth, does the use of lexical temporal expressions affect the rate of variation of grammatical temporal representations? To solve this problem, the rate of variability was derived through the analysis of essential cases of grammatical temporal expression, and how this relates to the use of lexical temporal expression was investigated. As a result, the rate of variation when using both lexical temporal representation and grammatical temporal representation was similar to the overall rate of variation in other learning stages. On the other hand, when no lexical temporal expression was used, similar patterns were observed in the beginner level, but different tendency were shown at the advanced level than when lexical time expressions were used. This suggests that, at an advanced level, the use of lexical temporal representations can interfere with the correct use of grammatical temporal representations. However, the difference between the rate of variation when using the lexical temporal expression and the rate of variation when not using the lexical temporal expression is only 0.3%, implying the impact of the use of lexical time expression on the use of grammatical time expression is rather slight. Since infotainment programs, which combine information and entertainment, were introduced in 1998, viewers in and out of Korea were showing increased interest and enthusiasm for such programs. Especially, as Korean cultures and productions, such as K-POP, dramas, and movies, are gaining more attention among the fans abroad, these media became valuable as teaching materials. These changes promoted Korean classes to develop the materials into a teaching method. This research targets the superior Korean learners that have completed 6th level to utilize the infotainment programs for Korean discussion class model. The research establishes and suggests actual class discussion examples, along with Korean class models and syllabus, that have bases on existing Korean language classes and researches and adapt the infotainment programs as teaching materials. Also it includes survey analysis of appropriateness of the media and satisfactory levels from participants that have actually attended the model classes. (Ewha Womans University)

This study suggests ways for paraphrasing education to foreign graduate students by comparing the patterns between Korean graduate students and foreign graduate students on paraphrasing in academic writing. To this end, this study conducted an experiment and interview to analyze paraphrasing patterns in the academic writing of Korean and foreign graduate students. The experiment results showed that Korean and foreign graduate students used paraphrasing in words, sentences, and paragraphs. However, foreign graduate students had a different pattern of changing a word than Korean graduate students and used awkward or incorrect sentences when they used combinations of paraphrasing types. Meanwhile, the interview results showed that foreign graduate students had difficulty using paraphrasing in academic writing, and the paraphrasing process was more challenging to write than to read. Moreover, they focused on using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and expressions rather than the overall structure or content. Consequently, this study proposed helpful education directions for enhancing the paraphrasing skills in academic writing of foreign graduate students. (Korea University)

비원어민 예비 한국어 교사의 교안 분석 연구

This study aims to analyze lesson plans prepared by prospective non-native Korean language teachers, examine the characteristics of non-native Korean language teachers as a group, and recommend efficient measures for Korean language education practicum. While the interest of researchers in Korean language teachers has increased, they have focused mainly on native teachers. Although research on non-native Korean language teachers has increased recently, previous studies have not examined lesson plans prepared by prospective non-native teachers. Thus, this study analyzed the composition and content of 30 grammar lesson plans prepared by foreign students undergoing Korean language education training at universities in Seoul. The results showed a lack of diversity in types of exercise and task activities from a compositional perspective. Furthermore, the content quality was often attributable to their language proficiency. Based on this, measures were proposed to enhance the educational effectiveness of Korean language education courses for prospective non-native Korean language teachers. This study aims to develop a chatbot as an assisting tool for teaching and learning Korean pragmatics. Although there are few chatbots and mobile-based tools that assist Korean language learning, the one focused on teaching and learning pragmatics does not exist. Therefore this study explores the utility of chatbot as a learning tool for pragmatics and proves it with an example of the refusal speech act. To accomplish this, the contents for the teaching refusal speech act were first selected and established based on the precedent research, and two open-source chatbot builders were used to develop the chatbot. In conclusion, it was determined that the chatbot is potentially valuable resource for assisting in teaching and learning a complicated speech act such as refusal. (The University of Hong Kong)

The purpose of this study is to construct predication activity of ‘academic Korean’ in KSL education for elementary learners. To this end, the concept of academic Korean is first examined from a theoretical perspective and a curriculum perspective, and the activities of elementary academic Korean textbooks are analyzed. Academic language skills require clear and specific predicative representation skills, but the activities of the textbook are limited or ambiguous in terms of speech output. Therefore, based on the psycholinguistic language processing model, the framework of predication activity composition was established and the direction of predication activity operation was established at the same time. As a result, predication activity for primary learners could be presented in accordance with the academic meaning and predicative sentence representation procedures. 고급 중국어 작문 쓰기에서 나타난 한국인 학습자의 대체오류 분석

This paper is about five-year study of language errors that Korean learners have shown in writing high-quality Chinese, and focused on substitution errors with the highest error rate among them. Substitution errors have been frequently observed during five-year long research. The interference of mother tongue negatively affected the texts and resulted in high substitution errors. Transference in language accounted for more than two-thirds, much higher than transference between languages. Interlingual transfer was mainly caused by borrowing Korean expressions and Chinese characters, while intralingual transfer was classified as semantic and syntactic errors. This paper will provide a concrete example of overall linguistic errors and substitution errors that Korean learners made in writing high-quality Chinese language, and hope to help language learners to make progress from intermediate level to be more competent in their target language. The purpose of this study is to investigate the patterns and characteristics of /ㅢ/ pronunciation errors of Uzbek Korean learners based on an experimental phonetic methodology, and to present basic educational materials. For this study, the speech data were analyzed for patterns and characteristics of pronunciation errors for vowel /ㅢ/ according to phonological conditions and morphological conditions. As a result of the experiment, the error patterns according to phonological conditions were different for male and female, but overall the error rate of /ㅢ/ was high in the word-initial and GV structure. Under morphological conditions, grammatical morphemes had a lower error rate than lexical morphemes. Also, the error rate was high in words that could be separated depending on the structure of the word. (Jeonju University)

The purpose of this study is to discuss how to effectively use foreign language as classroom language in Korean class. To this end, in this study, the factors of foreign language use were found and discussed by analyzing academic papers related to foreign language use in Korean education so far. The previously used terms were critically analyzed and the term 'foreign language as a classroom language' was presented. By synthesizing the content that was partially discussed in various areas, factors as guidelines for effective foreign language use in the Korean classroom were analyzed to language constitutes, KSL and KFL situations, learners’ Korean proficiency, class stages and activities, and other factors. The specifics related to this are meaningful in that they can provide guidelines for Korean language teachers who can adapt to new educational situations, such as pre-service and beginning Korean teachers, and teachers dispatched abroad to decide about classroom language. 예비 한국어 교사의 TPACK에 대한 교육요구분석 -사이버대학교 한국어교육 전공생을 중심으로-

This study aimed to analyze the educational needs of pre-service Korean teachers for TPACK. The survey on TPACK was conducted for 62 students majoring in Korean language education at the Cyber University. The survey consisted of 39 items in 7 domains of TPACK. After that, the current level and importance of TPACK were analyzed using the Borich need assessment model and The Locus for Focus model, and then priorities were derived. The results show that PK, TPK, TCK and TPACK domains should be prioritized in education for pre-service teachers. As a result of analyzing the requirements for each detailed item, 2 items in the PK domain were selected as the highest priority, and 11 items were selected as the second priority. This result can give practical guidance to curriculum design for the improvement of TPACK of pre-service Korean teachers. (Korea University)
