The purpose of this study is to introduce a writer, Federico de Roberto and his work, I Vicerè. Second, it is to reveal similarities and differences by comparing and analyzing Gattopardo. Lastly, I tried to remind you again that art reflects reality through the publication of these two novels and the screening of movies.
Federico de Roberto was not illuminated during his lifetime, but was properly recognized when I Vicerè was published in 1984 and made into a film in 2007. In Korea, the movie I Vicerè was screened in 2012, but it did not receive much attention, so I would like to introduce the artist and his work at this opportunity.
Next, I Vicerè and Gattopardo are compared and analyzed. The former tells the history of the Italian integrated from Spanish rule and the latter tells the story of the descendants of the Don Fabricio family in 1910 from the time of Garibaldi's landed in Sicily in May 1860.
Analyzing the two works, the gattopardismo was also found in I Vicerè published in 1894, but rather, it was found that the Uzeda family revealed such a tendency much more dynamically and explicitly by becoming a Roman member of the Italian Parliament.
In terms of description, Gattopardo is concentrated on one of Fabrizio of the Salina family, but in I Vicerè the protagonists of various voices appear to avoid a specific perspective.
The two works have similarities in many ways: the historical perspective of Risorgimento, the speaker is a nobleman, and Southern Sicily background. Also both works were made into movies, and after that, the artist and work were illuminated.
There are differences. The big difference between the two works is that in Gattopardo, the Southern Salina family refuses to participate in Unified Italy and disappears from history, while the Uzeda family actively integrates and continues to maintain power. In this regard, it was possible to understand the perspective about Risorgimento of the public who loved Gattopardo in the 60s and the public who loved I Vicerè.
