This study investigates the ability of three variables-integrative motivation, instrumental motivation, and the foreign language requirement-to predict: (1) perception on Arab people and Arab culture (2) the desire to continue studying Arabic in the future. Analysis of data from questionnaire administrated to 299 students who, as of the second semester 2009, took Arabic lessons as a liberal art course at 11 universities nationwide. A significant negative relationship was found between the need to fulfill the foreign language requirement and attitudes toward Arab culture. This means that students motivated by the need to fulfill the foreign language requirement has less positive attitudes toward Arab culture compared with those not motivated by the need. A negative relationship was found also between the need to fulfill the foreign language requirement and an intention to continue with further studies in Arabic. Meanwhile, positive relationship was found between integrative motivation and instrumental motivation, and an intention to continue with further studies in Arabic. The findings support a focus on classroom activities that enhance integrative and instrumental motivation as a means of increasing the desire to continue studying Arabic.

Modality can be defined linguistically as the attitude taken by the speaker toward the contents of the message uttered by the speaker himself. Therefore modality is an area of subtle syntactic and semantic distinctions. In Arabic grammar, little has been known about the grammatical category of modality. This paper mainly deals with the epistemic modality, because it covers the important semantic areas such as the possibility and necessity in the modal sentences. It relates to what one knows to be in fact the case or to what one judges to be possible or likely on the basis of prior knowledge. The epistemic modality will be discussed in its relation to the deontic modality from the perspective of semantic change. Real examples are cited to illustrate the theoretical points covering both the Classical Written Arabic and Spoken Arabic as well. It has been concluded that the epistemic modal sentences can be expressed by the various linguistic devices and modes of modality and the modal expressions were grammatically structured. The semantic connection between the different types of modality could be found to be used in Arabic.

The vocabulary have reflecting the social change and its` feature and structure, a vocabulary have been considered as one of the best tools to observe the language situation and the social change. Arabic speaking community has provided the appropriate circumstances to study the relation of the vocabulary with the social structure. Since AD 7 century, Arab Islamic society has changed rapidly from nomadic society to settlement and from oral culture to record culture within one hundred years. Beginning the Islamic era, the many new vocabularies the Arab didn`t know were demanded to run the Islamic empire. Therefore the medieval Arab Islamic scholars coined the new vocabulary to meet the advanced nation and the social demands through the analogy(qiyas), derivation(□Istiqaq) based the analogy and the Arabization. In this paper, I will research the main methods for the Arabic codification and its criterions used the Arab Islamic scholars. Through this paper, I also expect to understand not only the standard for Arabic codification but also fundamental features in Arabic language.

The poets of Diwan Group were the three Egyptian poets who severely criticized the traditionalism of the neoclassicists on the form and content at the same time. And they tried to settle down the new trend in the Arab world early in the 20th century. But they gained a half success in the reform movement. Because at the time of Diwan Group was working, the neoclassicism still maintained its power and popularity, and therefore the readers who could arouse the public responses were relatively few. Besides, because of the dispute of plagiarism between Shukri and Mazini, giving up the working by Shukri, and placing a great weight on the criticism and the prose than poetry by mazini and Aqqad, poem writings of Diwan Group were limited. Generally, Shukri and Mazini versified the romantic and subjective themes with the Qasidah, and also experimented the various forms like the blank verse, stanza, short poem. On the other hand, Aqqad treated his romantic and subjective emotion in his most works, and wrote above two thirds with the short poem and stanza. After all, the poets of Diwan Group might be the pioneers who expressed the romantic and subjective themes in various forms, and then went towards the freer romanticism over the limits of the normative neoclassicism. And these experiments were developed by the poets of Apollo Group who began to work in 1930`s, and so became the footstone of the free verse movement in 1950`s. The other evident proof that became the footstone of the free verse movement was the use of a myth. In the fact that the free verse movement was played the leading role by the Tammuzi poets who used the myth of death and revival with a major motif, we could figure out the contribution of Diwan Group.

This comparative study will look at the poetic works of Egyptian Poet Amal Donqul and Korean poet Ku Un. The study will focus on defining and addressing the importance of home, the space which the poets believe is ideal for growth of human expression and peace, and resistance, the rejection of prevailing conditions or ideas that the poets feel do not create an acceptable reality for his home. The principal focus of the comparison is between the two voices of resistance the poets choose; the first is a brave and indignant younger man, the second is an older, contemplative philosopher. These two voice used to express resistance will have a clear impact on the modalities of art in the poetic text of each writer. An important requirement of this study is to shed light on home and the methods employed in the technical literature of the writers. The study will then comparatively address the object lessons found in the meaning of the writers on one hand, while, on the other hand, looking at the main technical characteristics of the poets using analysis models of poetry. This will be concluded by a greater understanding of these poets` viewpoints on life and their value to their respective culture, Arab and Korean. Most important results of the study: on a personal level ; When we look at the main traits of both poets, clear concepts can be identified. There is a national political consciousness that does not accept appeasement and refuses to surrender, reverence for poetry as joy embezzler who gives life meaning, daring himself to write, and courage as the maximum expression of opinion or behavior, regardless of the obstacles. Both also have the ability to predict the future. They prefer expression of the concerns and dreams of the nation at large, which have sympathized with them, speaking the truth whatever it cost. Through anaylsis of their texts` we have found: -Donqul mainly depended on narration, but the text did not derive solely from the traditional employment of the story, it was also structured on the basis of the talk show, the same thing appeared in the anthology of Ku Un. One difference between them was that the narrator with Donqul seems to be knowledgeable, while he does not seem to be quite so educated in Ku Un. -Contemporary Ku Un`s poems all are one poem, despite the diversity of all the poems and plays tunes unity between the two halves of Korea, The anthology of Amal Donqul is already one poem to recite unity and urges to uphold dignity, justice and homeland.
