Literary works, specifically those accompanied by interest and literary basics, are required to be dealt with a major study of characters. Making up a character in any literary work especially in a novel is to create a fictions world which is Linked with an essense of literature. There is no disputing that a character is the Subject of action and incident in leading development, and moreover exterior evidence to the writer’s thoughts in addition, it must be a socio-historical existence and the mirror of Zeitgeist. This study is not aimed at analyzing literary works by means of theories, but at looking into plots and themes, if necessary, centering around characters in association with theoretical bases. The writer, in this connection, intends for analyzing one of Korea’s foremost Novelists' Hwang Soon-wan's works such as “Sun & Moon” and "Moving castle”, thus leading to various traits of his works. Coupled with the elaboration of sentences, the writer contributes to expanding the linguistic horizon of Korean literature by porper ussuage of the mother tongue. The writer, however, would say that in the study of reading methods intended for reaching a writer’s literary world he might be encircled within the lack of social circumstances and various related surroundings. Yet it might be one of the best shortcuts to a certain analysis of a literary work in the context of sounding out the writer’s intentions and thoughts. No writer can organize the development of a story without depending upon or making up selecting characters. The work of finding out characteristics of a personality in any novel can ultimately turn into a channel of looking into the writer's inner shape.

The essay is attempted to focus on characters who are always ‘seeking self. In narrative, most of characters are wanderers setting out for ‘self’. On their way there must be some castle to cross over or obstacle to overcome. Even though the journey is full of fights with inner mind, there is probability second ‘self’ can be found obstacle. So ‘self is moving, not settling, the moving desire of ‘self’ is always reflected through Others’ world or the conflict with them. In narrative describing the process of character’s self-realization or self- knowledge, there are ways to encounter second ‘self, far from present ‘self’ and to be sure there is strange boundary to make self-knowledge move. In case of novels of ‘Hwang, Soon-Won’ where most of characters are heroes possessed by passive and negative recognition on reality, they tend to be distressed about love or to reflect themselves with it. But one noticeable thing is that most of their loves are selfish or narcissistic, rather than altruistic or ‘With’. Especially ‘Moving Castle' describes the process of self-knowledge of three characters who have different ways of recognition on love. This text shows us boundary between agitated self and reality, which is in the mind of many types’ characters who could not achieve spiritual stability even though they were anxious for spiritual stability not for physical.

The courage which it opposes to a time may not so much lie in the glittering heroic act as in stubborn persistence, or in the acceptance changes. There have been moments in history when remarkable progress was made in relatively short periods of time. Also the modern time belongs in like that moment. The modem time with the customer menu of novel at character of transition period under appearing boiled specially. Is not exception even from Hwang, Sun Won's novel. To his work The Dice of Gods like this features appears well. The spirit back of family system, industrialization, and times with previously times is to appear with different features from his novel The Dice of Gods. The people of novel inside it follows in change of times and it lives it is going a new life. Individuals have several basic, life-sustaining needs that must be satisfied. The primary agents of community orientation in contemporary society are the family, the peer group, and the work. Like that features in order to feel a modern time more nearly. A country cannot develop its industrial power overnight. For a quarter of a century when the modernization should have been started really even from Korea passed. But the modernization as ever is in the process of advancing.

The purpose of this study is to explore Sun-Won Hwang’s literature and his pure lyricism with different viewpoints. The short stories under review include wangsodul' (Bulls), ‘Sonagi’(Shower), The world projected by the young protagonists in his fictions is quite different from that of adults. This enables him to approach the pure and lyrical world with ease. In the fictions under review, individual narrator tells about the boys at a distance. The narrator often serves as a medium of consciousness of the young protagonist while sometimes describing it more directly. The world projected through the consciousness of the boys who are protagonists in Hwang’s fictions under review is full of juvenile and often the puerile mind. Sun-Won Hwang’s purism and lyricism are embedded in the distance and cross-link between the protagonist and the narrator as well as in his charateristic style and subject.

The motif of noble lineage and abnormal birth, while forming the root and trunk of Korean heroic narrative and continuing transformed in contemporary works into abnormal life after birth and social abnormality, has its origins in and is the basic element of mythology. The main purpose of this article is to point out and examine the tradition of Korean heroic narrative literature as it has been inherited and transcended in the contemporary novel Pyon'gyong, which deals with marginalized characters similar to Kiltong and Ch’unhyang, who are dealt with in traditional Korean novels. The protagonists of myths such as Kiltong and Ch’unhyang clear away their sense of inferiority due to their illegitimate birth and strive to outshine the glory of their fathers1 worlds in defiance of social conventions, while at the same time in some way looking up to the worlds of their fathers. The protagonists of the novel Pyon’gyong, while being descendants of a noble lineage, are marginalized as a result of being of the same blood as their father who chose to follow the communist ideology and have no choice in the South in an era of national division but to repay in their own wavs the price of this ‘sin1. The theme of Pyon'gyong deals with the conditions that result in the fate and unavoidable marginalization of four brothers and sisters left behind in the South as a symbol of our nation's geopolitical situation under the shroud of imperialism. This is expressed through the affirmative characteristic of traditional society in the descendants of a noble lineage and the injustice of society in the South in an era of division, in. which the descen-dants of a communist are marginalized. Therefore, Pyon'gyong's narrative value rests in how these four brothers and sisters rid themselves of their marginalization. This contemporary novel Pyon'gyong faithfully inherits and goes beyond the tradition of Korean heroic narratives and once again makes us realize that the endless longing for an absent father is the original source of our narrative content.

The domestic novel especially procides an opportunity to create tragic beauty to the aesthetics of the Korean literature, which is based on a particular emotion - a spite and grudge, through the repetitive process of life and death called reincarnation. This is the evidence that truthfulness of human life is deeply concerned with the Korean shamanic beliefs in the next world. The phenominon of dream which appears in the domestic novel is the mysterious notification that tells a forthcoming birth. This means that the functions of a gero a heroine in the domestic novel are much more realistic and virtuous than those of a hero or a heroine in the hero - novel. The secret - assistance - novel is the rapport of divine inspiration between man and god, in which the suggestion in the manifested dream has great influence on the filial and pure hero’s or heroine’s existence and realization of ideal value.

The aim of this article is to understand why films are good narrative discourses- After structuralism, narrative is defined by many poetics as the representation of real/fictive events(or a recounting of a series of actual/fictionai events in which some connection between the events is established or implied). Narratologist and semiotics have also studied narrative forms, with of the focus devoted to novel, drama, and films. But recent narratology scholars are more interested in the rhetoric of storytelling. Clearly, we talk of a gift for telling stories. We enjoy it through various medium. All narratives have narrative agents. In cinema, camera is a narrative eye and voice. So, film is also able to mediate message from author to reader. Truffaut: Godard, and their critical colleagues proposed that the greatest movies are dominated by the personal vision of the director. I evaluate the korean director, Hong Sang-soo is very famous “the Auteuris廣 movie director. The auteur theory establish the director as the key figure at least in art of cinema. I think, Hong Sang-soo's movies were conveyed though the mise en scene, the editing, and all the other discourse devices treated by the director’s disposal.

Lee Ki Young’s 『ShinKaeChi(Newly Developed Land)』 is the text, which is appreciated as one keeps concerning on real comparison to the other novels. Although this text dosen’t deal with a social conflict which is the former work’s theme, it touches the real of changing farm village. The characteristic of 『ShinKaeChi(Newly Developed Land)』 becomes clear when we compare it with「GoHyang(Hometown)」. This text has a similar spatialtemporal background to 『GoHyang(Hometown)』, but it dosen’t deal with collective movement. It try to criticize on changing, but it also dosen’t turn into an form of genuine movement. We can tell the sociocultural difference of the times when the two works were written. This text's story-line is developed along the two story. The first one shows the contents of times’ change. The meaning of ‘Newly Developed Land’ is being emphasized through the landscape of being modernized farm village. Protagonist, ‘Yun Soo’ who live in the changing times, whose health as a worker is well expressed. Yun Soo is an ordinary person rather than an enlightening person, but he is a realistic person who thinks on the meaning of labor and family. The second structure is about the love story which happens around Yun Soo. 『ShinKaeChi(Newly Developed Land)』 also shows the weak point, which is the first half of the text is a contrast of two family and the latter half is mainly consist of love story. More「than anything else, this novel dosen’t assume the comfort caused by colonial modernization. As the title lies, ‘Newly Developed Land’ means change and construction. This change is a sort of problematic modernization which alienation lots of people. This novel is a kind of work which thinks over how that modernization affects individual and what’s going on the daily life of ‘Newly Developed Land’s people. This novel dosen't have a total vision which see the world but it deals with daily life minutely. So it implies the atmosphere and the meaning of the times.

This paper intends to investigate the duality of the modern age which is immanent behind the critique of capitalism, focused on Ham Min-Bok's The Promise of Capitalism. Therefore, through the portrait of modern people in The Promise of Capitalism, this paper analyzed how his poetry revealed the properties of the modem age and through which poetic properties his poetry shaped them. Superficially, the problem of capitalism which Ham Min-Bok shaped borrow the form of criticism on civilization. But internally, there is the metonymy of the duality of the modern age in it. This is the secret working- method of capitalism of which we are not conscious and the dual sense of desire/criticism behind the modem age.
