We are apt to regard Jung Ji-yong just as a modernist poet. But a substantial amount of his poems is composed in relation to the traditional Oriental classical poetics. The dual aspects of his poems and their interrelationship have been rarely discussed so far. In this case, the emphasis on the highness and flexibility of spiritual world in his later nature poems and his sen.se of the pen as the whole person who succeeds the spirit of josun Sadaehu-spirit provide one clue to us. It is difficult to appreciate his poems by dual standards such as the Orient and the Occident, the Old and the New. To understand the influence of Western Imagism in his literature deeply, we need to understand Oriental classical poetics first. Additionally we should clearly notice that the thought of Bukhak School including Chusa Kim Jung-Hee follows cultural independence line based upon ‘To create the New following the Old”,which Jung Ji-yong was deeply immersed in in his later life. His ultimate goal based upon this conscious is to distinguish his literature and the pen as the norm and standard of modern artistic writings. This artistic goal pushes him to go over the borderline of the existed dualism such as the Orient and the Occident and the Traditional and the Modern und expand his inner epistemological horizon.

This paper studies the features of mountain climbing and analyzes the later poetry world of Jeong Ji Young. It is times pointed out that Sansusi of Jeong Ji Young was features of post modern. But his poetry was not poetry of post modern. Snasusi of Jeong Ji Young has been involved features the first .stage poetry. That is common community in infancy period. Especially It restarted experience of mountain climbing with that period. And that was resisted the empe-rial country. The poetical investigation of Jeong Ji Young, as we pointed out in his text, embodies -a summit of Modern Korean poetry. That is To say, his orientation in Sansusi, have [he opportunity to understand in his late poetry.

We have made an analysis of the social production of meanings through the relation of differences and identities, concerned with the transformational progress of Jung Jee-Yong, the poet and his poem text, focusing our attention on his poem ‘Nostalgia' According to our taking a good looking, the poetical infra of Jung jee-Yong was reduced and limited. On this, we have confirmed the fact that it was locked up under the cloak, namely, the 1930th as period and the pure literature as space. The motivation was the ideology of korean literary circles, trying to turn the poem of Jung Jee-Yong to demystification and remystification. When it comes down to it, these clays, we can consider the meanings of the poem, Jung Jee-Yong as the one of forfeiture of polypony in korean literary circles. Therefore we can tell that the process of magnifying the poetical infra of Jung, Jee Yong is equal to the overcome of having the tendency of biases in korean literature.

The personae are represented as wanderers in Chung Jiyong's early major poems. They have a great store of emotion, and achieve their rich emotional state with a minimum of direct expression. Chung Jiyong expresses his emotion in three ways; the poet provides it as a latent mode, he changes it into an objective landscape, or he etherealizes it as something beyond human emotion. The emotional states such as 'exotic mood' and 'sadness' explored in this paper are represented in these ways, so that they contribute to revealing the mental and internal world of a poetic self. Chung's early poetry shows an exotic atmosphere to perceive civilization as a level of emotion. The mood results from 1) his interest in modem culture expressed in the poems such as 11 Cafe France", UA Sad Portrait' ^Pebbles", and “Ap-stream”(押川)' 2) his longing for a utopian world in “sea 2”, “Window 1”, “Sad Train' and “Horse”, and 3) his concern about in a (catholic) religious rite represented in 'The Phoenix”,"Sadness", and “Trees” The poet presents the exotic mood which is mingled with various kinds of .sadness. The sadness in his exotic atmosphere comes from his alienation (separation) from modern civilization or his awareness of existential and religious limitations.

The aim of this study is to analyse the “Valediction' is one of the most difficult works of Oh Jung-Hee in terms of the missing husband’s ambiguous life and death. This reflects the author's strong experimental spirit, which means that the author used the novel as a means of exploration. The work is full of anti-prose style by using poetic metaphor and one- directional images, which means the author used the impressionistic and symbolic technique to express the individual consciousness. This also reflects the chaotic status of the author's consciousness or the hick of prose-writer spirit. But the symbolic meaning of this technique is changed as “the atmosphere of the mind” constantly associated with Death. Naturally this literary style can he said to be a means of the process of putting the internal world into language or the quest for the epic identity which includes the non-lin-gual life. In The "Valediction", the real time is combined with the past retrospective time in the form of a montage. The core of the plot in this work is the husband's missing. The past tease description belongs to retrospection, while the present tense description belongs to the prospection of the event. The author utilizes various rhetorical devices to describe the divided self, which looks more "real" than the original experience. It is because the experience and the memory are structured according to the ".significant association”.

The purpose of this essay is to examine the logical system and the intrinsic intention of Todorov's theory of narrative. His theory has significance in respect that it is representative of the narratology advocating structural poetics. I also gave attention to the discrepancy immanent in his theory of narrative. 'Poetics' of 'narrative' runs after the literariness and the narrativity in literary narratives at the same lime. In Todorov’s, s theory, we can find his self- contradictions caused by that reason and moreover self-conscious consideration about it. He classifies the fields of poetics from a linguistic viewpoint into three; the semantic aspect, the syntactic aspect, and the verbal aspect. The semantic aspect is related to the process of signification,the problem of verisimilitude, and a general literary thematics etc. The syntactic aspect deals with structures of the text and the grammar of narrative. And the third aspect includes time, perspective, mode, and voice in fictional narrative. In this essay, I examined each aspect concretely and considered it\s logical validity and practical utility. Todorov's theory of narrative contributed to analysis of narrative structure and penetration into into nature of narrativity. On the other side, it showed the limits to verify distinctive qualities of the literary text. But the two-directional object of poetics of narraitive served as incentives to many theories of narrative which have contrary inclinations. His theory is worthy of notice by reason chat it laid the foundation of prosperity of narratology.

근대소설에서 일원묘사와 대화체의 독서전략 고찰

The aim of this article is to study the reading strategy of Korean modern short novel. Especially, I analyze the types of discourse structure that structured in Kim, Doin-in’s fictional narrative text, An, Hwoi-nam’s, Chili, Man- sik’s. From this study, the following condusions was extracted. The contacting method that strucured in Korean old nove's oral discourses was dominated by Neo-Conlucianism's the power relation. So, reader ought to believe fictional agency interpretations and valuations that were oppressed in fictional narrative text. But, ii was in Kim, Dung-in’s the early novels that fictional narrative text's reading .sovereign transferred from author to reader. Here, the reading ad is not obliged to the perspective of fictional agency. In Kim, Dong-in's text, however reader treed from its power. The reader have to interpret, evaluate, generalize a text for him self. That is the 'strategy of analytic reading', it was succeeded through his 'reflective point of view’ and 'colloquial movement' On the other hand, the many of dialogue novel emerge in 1930s. The dialogue novel is a fictional narrative text that it’s discourse constructed by the dialogue of fictional agencies. In that text, the reader obliged to feel ‘the auditory hallucination of immediateness’ that talk with fictional agencies or overhear the dialogue of them. Finally,the reader disposed to the virtual dialogue positions narratee or viewer's position so that happened sympathy, identification(or anti-identification). Therefore, dialogue novdel is an elective discourse strategy to make a reader into a ceratin subject that it designed. Namely,it is 4the strategy of participant reading.

한국 현대소설의 미학적 기반(1) -박태원 이상의 단편소설

In Korea Modern Novel was believed to assume the modern trait from 1930’s. Mr. Taewon Park and Mr. Sang Lee mentioned above demonstrated the value of the literary circumstance at this age through implementing various writing techniques. The structure of written texts that those writers had been accomplished was intimately related with modernism, in which literature was recognized as 4a linguistic architecture.’ The main plot of their works was proceeded on the basis of the 'a inner monologue’ and 'a stream of consciousness’ both of which were included in the technical principles creative writing. Thus, The representative title that provided us with the opportunity of discussing the modernity of a short story and the value of aesthetics entirely ignored the linear stream of unit* and language, and instead, it was evidently related with the trial of transferring narration into a notion of space. The trend of modernizing aesthetics had to he achieved after exploring the subject - how each element constructing a text could be put together systematically and might open the view of ordinary people in [he world. The short stories written by the writers should he treated as really significant achievement all together. Within the art works we could at last find the literature at the turning point of writing techniques from ‘what’ novels convey in stories to ‘how' they do. By the way of associating the achievement in the view- of techniques with the circumstance of 30’s we could discover the noticeable relationship between aesthetic and social pattern. In 1930's most novels shared a common feature which is represented with the attitude of characters toward social problems of the age. In a novel the characters tried to internalize the reality rather than express it overtly. In the fictions of Mr. Park and Mr. Lee the figures were not allowed to confront the reality of the age and usually described as signs of despair. This type of writing tendency was represented in the narrations following the writing techniques of ‘a inner monologue’ und stream of consciousness.' The transition of the characters in stories could be regarded as one of the rhetoric tools: moreover, it saliently contributed to develop the aesthetic efficiency of novels. The rhetoric tool that the writers applied to their works consisted of artistic presentations in which all the social situations were depicted ambiguously. The way of linking the rhetoric tool to the real society could be taken as the process of refracted self-transformation, which was caused by the real circumstance at that time. Unless we deny the possibility of the social situation's constraining of aesthetic pattern we could define the development of writing technique in 1930’s as transfiguration' rather than as ‘development.’ When we talk about society we have to think of two aspects: development and fluctuation. The aesthetic patter has to reflect these two properties all the time. Therefore, we need to understand the achievement of writing techniques of 30’s twofold One is the angle of promoting the creative writing with multiple techniques; and, the other is that of reflecting the social situation of the colonial period.

The 'form-and-content’ controversy was an event that gave an enormous impact on the direction of【he KAPF movement. However, up to now, researchers have mainly approached it from the aspects of its essential nature or critical attitudes, therefore failing to get a grip on the nature of the controversy; in fact, it is more about what should be the role in the proletariat literature or writers in the time of struggle. Kim Gi-chin, putting a high emphasis on the effects of literature, thinks chat the role of the proletariat literature is a disseminate the class consciousness. His view is a very pragmatic one; but it also has something of a conformist nature, in the struggle is conducted within the limit of reality. Park Young-hee, on the contrary,argues chat writers themselves should be armed with the adamantine class consciousness. He asserts that the proletariat literature aim to propagandize the proletariat consciousness. Nevertheless, he show no real interest in the methods or effects of propaganda; Instead, he repeatedly justifies the abstract idea of class struggle Both critics have the same view that in their lime proletariat art movements reached the crucial phase of struggles, but they have different ideas as to its method or direction. The then KAPF as well as the socialist movement bloc in Korea adopted Park's dogmatic theories over Kim’s pragmatism. With no denial of his own justification, Kim accepted Park's argument, putting a hasty closure on the controversy, This decision, done on the basis of the organizational logic more than the theoretical one, was to determine the direction of the later KAPF movements.
