2014. A study on the contents selection for Korean culture education in the aspect of overseas of Korean studies. Journal of Korean Language Education 25-3: 1-28. The purpose of this paper is to proposes new contents for Korean culture education as overseas Korean studies which is based on students` needs in the eduction field. ‘Culture’ is recently recognised as an important object of research. This study carried out a survey targeting 30 undergraduate students in order to select the contents of Koreanculture curriculum. The paper proposes to select three contents categories; first, for Korean historical culture, second, for living life of Korean people, third, for emotion of Korean people. This study is expected to contribute contents development of Korean culture education as overseas Korean studies.

2014. A study on the use of animacy cue, word order cue, and case particles cue as the sentence comprehension strategy by L2 learners of Korean: Focusing on Chinese speaking learners. Journal of Korean Language Education 25-3: 29-58. This study investigates the strength of grammatical cue and lexico semantic cue in Korean sentence interpretation of Korean learners of Chinese. In the case of Chinese, word order is the most reliable cue for determining the subject and object in a sentence. In contrast, word order in Korean is much more flexible, and case information is the most important cue for marking these grammatical and functional roles. In each sentence, lexico-semantic cue, syntactic cue and morpho syntactic cue were either competed or consistent with one another. The results showed that the learners relied onword order. However, The learners` performance improved, they became more adept at noticing and processing case-marking information. (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies)

This research is about the comparative analysis of teaching materials used in China, which is based on the theory of materials compiling in teaching and the educational concept. The aim of this research is making suggestions for the compiling and development of advanced teaching materials for the learners of Korean. First, in Chapter 2, it is explained that integrated Korean education is also necessary for advanced learners and in terms of setting up standards for compiling teaching materials, it is also necessary to study the characteristics of advanced learners. In addition, this research also aims to examine the properties of integrated Korean teaching materials for advanced learners, which is based on the teaching goals of Korean study. In Chapter 3, the properties mentioned above will be showed by the common standard of analysis of teaching materials and the evaluation items for integrated Korean teaching materials will also be given out. In Chapter 4, according to the evaluation standard mentioned before, the structure, system, language factors and study activities of 6 kinds of integrated teaching materials currently used in China will be analyzed. In the part of conclusion, specific suggestions for future development of integrated teaching materials will be given out based on analysis above.

The purpose of this study is to find out the distinctive usage of ‘Gamsahada’ and ‘Gomapda’ appeared in spoken discourses which share similar meaning of ‘gratitude``. In order to do that, discourse analysis is carried out setting the text type (public/private) of the discourses taking place and the preceding/following elements written next to the two words as major variables. Based on such analysis result, a tendency of distinctive usage of the two words appeared in spoken discourse is stated according to each variable. First of all, in the result of the discourse analysis of which the major variable is text type, the tendency that ‘Gamsahada’ is preferably used in a public text whereas ‘Gomapda’ is preferably used in a private text is identified. Secondly, in the result of the discourse analysis of which the major variable is a combining pattern with following elements, ‘Gamsahada’ has a overwhelmingly high tendency to take a formal style ending as a following element. In comparison, ‘Gomapda’ shows a tendency to preferably take the formal style ending, but an informal style ending is also used at a very high rate compared to ‘Gamsahada’. Lastly, in the result of the discourse analysis of which the major variable is a combining pattern with preceding elements, ‘Gomapda’ has a higher tendency than ‘Gamsahada’ that mostly a preceding sentence, an empathic adverbial, a temporal adverbial, or the dative is put before it. On the other hand, ‘Gamsahada’ shows a higher tendency to combine with a conjunctive ending or an exclamation as a preceding element than ‘Gomapda’ does.

This study aims to explore the persuasive texts produced by foreign students in KAP(Korean as an Academic Purpose) largely in view of genre-based grammar model. Writing persuasive texts are one of the most crucial tasks in language curriculum since its ability is highly needed communicative skills which requires much of train and practice. Nevertheless, in KAP area, persuasive writing has not been mainly discussed, yet. In order to become fundamental research of how to teach writing a persuasive text in KAP, this study analyses persuasive texts produced by foreign students in perspective of genre-based grammar model which is regarded as one of the most educational grammar models in ESP(English as a Second Language). Overall, this analysis finds commonly outstanding phenomenon in foreign students` texts. Educational methods which are suggested on the grounds of this analysis are followings. The hierarchy of meaning structures and its corresponding expressions should be learned, respectively. Rather than connecting words such as “grigo”, “graseo” etc., various kinds of complex expressions are necessary to be educated as learners` language proficiency gets higher. Variation of expressions should be learned, as well. Practice which changes speaker-involved tone into non-involved tone in texts are needed, also. Both of definition and quotation should be recognized by a KAP learner as effective ways to clarify the topic of his persuasive text and to intensify validity of his own argument. 중도입국학생의 학교생활 적응을 위한 언어재료 연구

Considering the reality that the number of multi-cultural families has increased and the number of Multi-cultural Migrant Students have a tendency to rise, it is a beacon of this study to help them adjust to school life with necessary verbal material. For this, a survey was done to middle- and high school students in Non-san Metropolitan City in order to find out what verbal material the immigrated students of multi-cultural families might meed. It leads some factors―vocabulary, scene, knowledge, culture and conversation skill. As a result of investigated contents, teaching curriculum of Korean does not include words they need to know and does not refer to remaining materials. So too might the process of Korean education because language people speak is different according to environment of language. Eventually, the verbal material would have some differences from each circumstance of university to enter for the learners and they should study the material around the surrounding situation. Also the best teacher would be peer groups to teach them the material. Whether or not the immigrated students could succeed in Korea would depend on how effectively school work with the groups and educate as well as help them promote scholastic ability.

여성 결혼이민자의 한국어 학습전략 분석 연구

The purpose of this study is to provide basic source of learning strategy education to help women married immigrants improve their language skills. To find out women married immigrants` Korean learning strategy features, learners variations(mother tongue, job, age, learning experience of foreign language) and the patterns of Korean learning strategy were analyzed. After analyzing women married immigrants` patterns of learning strategy by using Oxford`s Strategy Inventory for Language Learning(SILL), it is turned out that while there is positive interrelation in mother tongues and jobs, there is negative interrelation in learning experience of foreign languages and there is no meaningful interrelation in ages. In mother tongues, Vietnamese learners use learning strategy more than Chinese learners. In jobs or jobless, learners with jobs use memory strategy, cognitive strategy, meta-cognitive strategy very much. Therefore, there is meaningful difference between women married immigrants` mother tongues and jobs, so when they learn Korean, there should be a differentiation teaching and learning method. First, while Vietnamese learners should have a teaching method of emotion strategy, Chinese learners should have memory strategy, reward strategy, emotion strategy, social strategy. Second, jobless learners should achieve teaching and learning so that they use memory strategy, cognitive strategy, meta-cognitive strategy. (Dongguk University).

한국어 감탄 표현 교육 연구

This paper aims to classify Korean exclamatory expressions according to the functional and semantic characteristics in the perspective of Korean language education. To this end, Korean exclamatory expressions, especially exclamatory sentence endings were classified and discussed in relation to the property of ‘perception time and utterance time’, ‘degree of consciousness of the listener’, and ‘direct perceptual experience of objects’. This study also investigated exclamatory expressions which are being taught in Korean education fields by analysing Korean textbooks, and examined the diversity and frequency of them. Based on the analysis result, educational implications and suggestions for teaching exclamatory expressions in the Korean language education were provided. First, it was suggested that ‘-deo-’ class exclamatory expressions be taught in connection with the previously learned exclamatory expressions. Also, this paper discussed the need for teaching exclamatory expressions which can be used in formal writings and the need for including sentence endings such as ‘-da’ and ‘-eo’ in the Korean textbooks, which are frequently used as exclamatory expressions in everyday language. Lastly, it suggested that the information which can distinguish the differences of exclamatory expressions with similar functional and semantic characteristics should be provided in the textbooks.

재미동포 학령전기 아동의 한국어 어휘 능력 발달에 대한 종단 연구

This longitudinal study examines the aspect of Korean vocabulary development as a Heritage language for Korean-America. In the first test which was conducted in 2012, among 53 children, 8 students showed normal development in receptive vocabulary, and 4 children showed normal development in expressive vocabulary based on the development of children in Korea. However, in the second test conducted in 2013, 39 children were tested among 53 children and only 2 children portrayed normal development within the receptive vocabulary. In the case of the comparison group in Korea, 48 children were given the same test and resulted as the following: receptive vocabulary (?7.179**) and expressive vocabulary (-12.362**). Within the first and second test, we have seen changes in vocabulary items such as ‘할아버지’ (grandfather), ‘이빨’ (teeth), ‘타다’ (ride), and etc., which are vocabulary that appear to be in the child’s life-community based vocabulary. This also portrays unstable vocabulary acquisition within the children. (Kyung Hee University).

중급 한국어 학습자의 구어 담화에 나타난 조사 오류 연구

The purpose of this study is to analyse discourse errors produced by Korean language learners at intermediate levels focusing on their usage of Korean particles. Since there are few studies conducted on the spoken errors found in the Korean language learners` discourse, compared with written texts, the current study is one of the first studies of its kind. Three types of discourse including debates, interviews, and speeches of 38 Korean language learners from 13 countries were recorded, transcribed, and analysed. The study has identified six types of particle errors including errors of substitution, ommission, addition, form, paraphrase, and pronunciation. Among the six types of errors, ommission error has the highest frequency of occurrence. This result is different from those found in previous studies that focused on written texts. The particles with a high rate of error occurrence include ‘이/가, 을/를, 에서, 에, 은/는’. (Yonsei University).
