This study shows the results of research on the influence of knowledge sharing activities on academic achievement and team effectiveness. Specifically, this study examined the effect of knowledge sharing activities on self-efficacy and team effectiveness based on the scaffolding which occurs within the zone of proximal development. This study was conducted at a university Korean language program in central Seoul. A total of 160 students in the program were surveyed on self-efficacy, knowledge sharing activities and team effectiveness, from which we selected 126 student responses to evaluate for this study. After the analysis, we found that knowledge sharing activities influence self-efficacy; however, knowledge sharing activities did not have an effect on academic achievement. Conversely, self-efficacy had an effect on team effectiveness. In this research, we empirically reviewed the mediating role of the relationship between knowledge sharing and team effectiveness, and how scaffolding occurred amongst the learners through knowledge sharing activities which lead to an increase in team effectiveness. Therefore, there must be an effort to increase team effectiveness through a variety of team activities, rather than individual activities, for successful Korean language learning. 인도인 한국어 초급 학습자의 오류 분석 연구

This article about error analysis of beginner level Indian students. It is inevitable for learners to make mistakes. Teachers should recognize the errors which appear in the data and make sure that learners do not repeat same error again. Not only teachers but learners should also identify their mistakes and recognize their weak area and find out what and how to learn. Error analysis is a theory to collect and analyze errors of the learner. An efficient way to teach learner can be designed based on the findings of the analysis. This paper collects writing data of beginner level learners of India who are learning Korean language as a foreign language and then classifies errors into different types. In this paper, I have focused on the written material of the beginners level learners of Korean language in India and found out that most of the errors done by these learners are preposition errors. Other errors which are frequently done by these learners are related to noun, verb, adjective, final ending, connecting endings. Result of the analysis shows that errors related to preposition were 32.37%, errors related to Noun were 15.23%, errors related to verb were 8.84% and errors related to sentence ending figured 8.94% of the total errors examined. After rigorous and careful analysis of these errors, it can be said that the next challenge is to devise a teaching method plan to target Indian learners utilizing these errors. There is a need to provide teaching-learning method for beginner learners in India keeping in mind the question that “What should be the effective way to teach Korean vocabulary or grammar to beginner level learners of Korean language in India?”

미얀마 내 외국어대학교의 한국어 교육 현황 및 개선 방안 -학부 과정을 중심으로-

The purpose of this study is to examine the status of Korean language education in Myanmar, and find out the problems and directions of future tasks. In order to examine how Korean language education is carried out in Myanmar, a survey was conducted with learners and teachers at the Yangon University of Foreign Languages and Mandalay University of Foreign languages. In this paper, based upon the results of the survey, difficulties of Korean language education were due to insufficient textbooks, teachers, classroom materials, and proportion of major class hours. Therefore, this paper proposes directions and means for providing teacher training courses, student exchange programs, upgrading curriculums and textbooks in Myanmar.

한국어 교사 재교육의 쟁점과 과제

The purpose of this study is to identify the main issues to suggest the direction of Korean teachers’ reeducation and propose its tasks. After reviewing previous studies, this study discussed three issues of Korean teachers’ reeducation: 1) to define the professionalism of Korean teachers, 2) to set a model of Korean teachers’ reeducation, and 3) to consider major factors which influence the professional development of Korean teachers. Based on the discussions about each issue, this study proposed tasks for developing Korean teachers’ reeducation including: 1) the design of a reeducation program with cognitive, behavioral and affective dimensions of professional development, 2) reeducation focused on reinforcing teachers’ perception and reflection, and 3) reeducation that takes into account teacher factors affecting their professionalism. This study especially emphasizes the importance of reeducation that considers teachers’ developmental stages and the needs of non-native Korean teachers. (Kyung Hee Cyber University)

한국어 학습자를 위한 명사절과 종속절 형성의 “-는지” 교육 연구

The purpose of this study is to make clear two kinds of functions of ‘-neunji’, such as forming noun clauses or subordinate clauses while making complex sentences, and then to suggest the teaching methods of ‘-neunji’ for international students. Through an analysis of essays written by 117 Korean undergraduate students and 117 Chinese undergraduate students, this study reveals that Chinese students do not correctly understand the functions of ‘-neunji’ when making complex sentences, and mostly use ‘-neunji’ in a fixed form. Based on the methods of presenting ‘-neunji’ in four kinds of Korean textbooks as well as the differences in using ‘-neunji’ between Korean students and Chinese students, a number of teaching methods are suggested for teaching ‘-neunji’ as follows: presenting predicates of the main clause, elaborating features of constructing ‘-neunji’ for expressing assumption or possibility, allowing students to understand the absolute tense and the relative tense in complex sentences, and initially teaching ‘-neunji’ forming noun clauses, and ‘-neunji’ forming subordinate clauses later on. The main aim of this paper is to provide language-teaching colleagues with an opportunity to rethink and extend the idea and scope of literacy pedagogy; namely, to show why and how Korean TV Public Service Announcements (PSAs) (Gong-ik Gwang-go) can serve as a valuable resource for content-based teaching of Korean language and cultural literacy. PSAs are often referred to as ‘a mirror of society’ or ‘reflection of culture’, and they can be used as a window into Korean society in the language classroom. Through PSAs, learners can identify significant public issues and shifts in societal themes. From the perspective of language pedagogy, we can incorporate content objectives (i.e., culture, social issues, and multiliteracies) into the language curriculum via the use of PSAs. This paper presents suggested teaching learning materials and activities using TV PSAs to promote integrated language learning in order to assist students in gaining linguistic competence as well as cultural literacy competence. A total of 377 TV PSAs created from 1981 to June of 2015 have been analyzed and classified by theme, allowing the Korean language faculty to share the list. In addition, sample learning scenarios implementing the 5Cs (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities) of the Standards for Foreign Language Education and Multiliteracies Framework (NLG 1996) have been presented. The results of students’ pre and post self-assessments in implementing the materials and content suggested in this research show an overall significant enhancement to their sociocultural literacy.

기능 심화형 한국어 교재 개발의 실제 -「경희 한국어 읽기」 교재를 중심으로-

The purpose of this study is to introduce the approaches and contents of a reading skills-based textbook developed by the Institute of International Education at Kyung Hee University. Moreover, the aim of the study is to compare the differences in language achievement between using an integrated reading textbook and an intensive skills-based textbook, and to further discuss the effects of developing an intensive skills-based textbook. In the context of Korean language education, reading and writing skills have not been sufficiently dealt with in classes and rather recognized as a secondary feature due to the emphasis of the communicative approach stressing speaking and listening skills. However, the advantages of an intensive skills-based reading textbook is that it focuses solely on reading skills, and therefore, aims to immerse the learners in real-world language contexts to acquire the specific language feature. Another advantage of the intensive skills-based textbook is that since it solely focuses on one function of language skills, a variety of topics and reading text genres can be accessible. In addition, as in the case of integrated textbooks, it dispels the concern that the detailed steps for improvement in each skill may possibly be overlooked. Moreover, it dismisses the concern that reading may be used as a secondary feature to learn vocabulary and grammar rather than the function itself. This study examined the reading abilities of 61 learners who studied with integrated textbooks from Basic 1 level to Advanced 1 level for five semesters and compared it with 57 learners who studied with intensive skills-based textbooks. Eight questions regarding ‘understanding factual information” and six questions on “making inferences” from the Korean Proficiency test (TOPIK) were provided and the results were compared. As a result, there was a meaningful difference of the score between the two groups which demonstrates that learners who were exposed to intensive skills-based textbooks showed better performance.

The purpose of this study is to consider the scope and order of priority in writing education by conducting a needs analysis targeted for learners studying in college at present. The teaching and learning context of writing education in college is decided depending on the purpose of the college or the judgment of professors rather than an accurate judgment of learner factors. To improve the writing skills of learners, it is crucial to accurately evaluate the present level of learners. Therefore, this study conducted a needs survey by using the questionnaire technique targeting learners taking a writing class as a liberal arts course in college at present. The survey is formed to analyze two measures, such as the level of performance and the level of motivation at the same time. The T-test is used to decide the order of priority, but the weakness of the t-test is supplemented by using a Borich coefficient. In addition, by using an IPA(Importance-Performance Analysis) Matrix, the order of priority regarding the difference between two levels was suggested; thus, raising concerns of the validity of the study. If the level of performance and the level of motivation of learners studying in college are accurately understood, guidelines can be suggested to sort and rank effective instruction for learners, which can contribute greatly to the selection of tasks and activities, and the development and evaluation of teaching materials. 학문 목적 한국어 쓰기 기술에 대한 중국인 학습자 요구 분석 연구

This study investigated Chinese students`` needs for Korean writing for academic purposes. Korean writing for academic purposes includes a variety of writing skills such as defining terms, summarizing passages and giving examples. In order to examine their needs in learning, Chinese students in the intermediate and advanced levels of Korean participated in this questionnaire-based survey research and the results were analyzed by the range of statistical analyses and the Borich need assessment model. As a result, students showed lower competency in amplifying, defining, analyzing, describing and classifying. The top five skills with higher learning needs were citation, amplifying, describing, analyzing and defining. The results of the study illustrated that students exhibit higher learning needs for the skills that were less commonly taught in the classroom such as citation, amplifying and describing as well as the ones frequently taught in the classroom, such as making comparison and making contrast. 재미동포 한국어 학습자들의 언어학습 신념에 관한 연구

본 연구는 계승어로서 한국어를 배우고 있는 재미동포 학생들의 언어학습 신념에 관한 연구이다. 미국의 한 국립대학에서 계승어로서 한국어를 배우고 있는 61명의 학생들을 대상으로 Horwitz(1987)가 개발한 “Beliefs About Language Learning Inventory(BALLI)”를 이용하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 학생들의 응답을 분석해 본 결과 자신의 정체성(한국인 또는 미국인)에 따라 크게두 그룹으로 나눌 수 있었다. 두 그룹의 학생들이 전반적으로 비슷하게 답을 하였으나, BALLI의 5개의 하위요소 중 “외국어적성” 카테고리에서는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였으며, 자신의 정체성을 한국인으로 인식하는 학생들은 자신을 미국인으로 생각하는 학생들보다 외국어를 잘 하는 것이 타고난 재능이라고 믿는 경향이 강했을 뿐만 아니라, 향후 자신의 한국어 말하기 능력이 더욱 더 향상될 것이라는 긍정적인 생각을 더 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 이들은 자신을 미국인으로 생각하는 학생들보다 한국어를 배우는 것에 대하여 좀 더 강한 동기를 보였으며 한국어로 말하는 것에 대한 두려움도 더 적었다.
