PVDF/PEGDMA- and PVDF-HFP/PEGDMA-coated PE separators were prepared by a dip coating method and a subsequent electron beam irradiation. SEM images of the prepared membranes showed that various morphologies could be produced by changing the composition of PVDF/PEGDMA or PVDF-HFP/PEGDMA. The effects of the coated polymers (PVDF or PVDF-HFP) and PEGDMA on the physio-chemical properties of the prepared polymer-coated PE separator such as porosity, liquid electrolyte uptake, ionic conductivity, and thermal shrinkage were investigated in this paper.

In this work, we have tried to find out the important factors to affect the flowability and mechanical properties of Themoplastic olefins(TPOs). TPOs of our work were composed of Polypropylene(PP), impact modifier, Talc, and trace amount of additives. PPs were four types which were differnt Molecular weight distributions(MWD) and Melt indexes(MI). Also, impact modifiers were two types of Polyethylene copolymer elastomers and an appropriate Styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymer(SEBS) elastomer. In case of broad MWD PP, spiral flow length showed longer than that of higher MI PP in some cases. Namely, MWD parameter is more effective than MI parameter to improve the flowability in range of high shear rate. Also, we could find out SEBS used in this study improves the performance such as impact strength and flowability. of TPOs which can be widely used in automotive parts.

Micropatterning of thin polymer films containing electroluminescent molecules by an ion irradiation technique

A simple ion irradiation technique to generate the positive and negative patterns of PMMA/Alq3 was demonstrated. The thin PMMA films containing various amounts of Alq3 prepared by spin-coating on a substrate were irradiated by accelerated proton ions through a pattern mask under various conditions. The SEM observation showed that the positive and negative patterns of the thin films were formed at f1uences below 1 x 10(15) and above 1 x 10(16) ions/cm2. respectively. Furthermore. it was clearly seen from the fluorescence images for the formed patterns that the positive PMMA/Alq3 patterns were visible but the negative patterns were not so due to the destruction of the Alq3 molecules caused by the ion irradiation.

Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCh) was prepared by chemical reaction with mono-chloroacetic acid and glyoxylic acid to low molecular weight water soluble chitosan (LMWSC) of C6-OH (O-Carboxymethyl chitosan), C2-NH2 (N-Carboxymethylc chitosan) and both C6-OH and C2-NH2 (N,O-Carboxymethyl chitosan) group to apply as an ionic-drug carrier. The structure were characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT 135 and HMQC (Heteronuclear Multiple Quantum Correlation). Degree of substitution (DS) and degree of deacetylation (DDA) of CMCh was determined by 1H-NMR.

PLA fibers were electrospun from a PLA (poly lactic acid) solution in mixed solvent of methylene chloride/ethyl alcohol (80/20). In order to prepare PLA fibers from electrospinning, with Streptomycin(0.l wt%-0.5 wt% to the amounts of PLA) as a antibiotics material in methylene chloride/ethyl alcohol (80/20). PLA solutions were electrospun at 15kV positive voltage. 10 cm tip-to-collector distances (TCD). 100 ㎕/min solution flow rate. The PLA nanofibers were characterized by SEM (Scanning electron microscopy). Antimicrobial activities of nanofibers was evaluted by disc diffusion test, optical density test and colony counting test against E. Coli and S. Aureus.

The surface modification of SWCNTs by a radiation grafting for an enhancement of their dispersibility was described. The raw SWCNTs were dispersed in different concentrations of styrene or acrylic acid solution and then irradiated by γ-radiation at various absorbed doses. The grafting degree was dependant on the monomer concentration and the absorbed close. The successful preparation of polystyrene- or poly(acrylic acid)-grafted SWCNTs were confirmed by 1H NMR and TEM observation. The grafted SWCNTs exhibited a much better dispersibility than the pristine SWCNTs.

New thermosensitive nanoparticles. based on PNIPAAm-AA core and chitosan shell structure, were designed and synthesized for the controlled release of the loaded drug. PNIPAAm nanoparticle containing carboxylic group on their surface was synthesized using emulsion polymerization. The particle size of synthesized nanoparticles was varied from 380 nm to 25 nm as temperature of the dispersed medium increased. LMWSC-conjugated nanoparticles of 2wt% MBA, crosslinking monomer, leaded to a stable aqueous dispersion at concentration of 1mg/1ml otherwise showed gel collapse temperature. The effect of temperature on the dynamic behavior of the PNIPAAm chains were also studied by dynamic light scattering and UV-Vis absorption measurements.

PFA fluoropolymer-based cationic exchange membranes with various the degrees of grafting and thicknesses were prepared by a γ-ray radiation grafting of styrene and a subsequent sulfonation. The influence of the degree of grafting and thickness on the physio-chemical properties of the membranes, such as ion exchange capacity, degree of sulfonation, water uptake, and proton conductivity were investigated in this study.
