PLA Stereocomplex의 제조 및 열적 특성

Polylactide (PLA) is considered a good alternative to fossil fuel based plastics as it is biodegradable and nontoxic to human. However PLA crystallize at a very low rate and has a relatively low melting temperature (Tm) in comparison with other commercial polymers. PLLA/PDLA stereocomplex has been expected to be potential high-performance polymer, because it shows its Tm at 220℃ which is 50℃ higher than homo-PLA. In this work, Thermal properties and crystallization behaviors of stereocomplex were analyzed by using DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), WAXD (Wide angle X-ray scattering) and Polarized microscope. We could find that stereocomplex crystallites exhibit much higher spherulite growth rate. Also, thermal stability is maximized when a 50/50 blend is used.

PLLA/EGMA 블렌드의 모폴로지 및 기계적특성

PLA is too brittle for room-temperature applications. Therefore, It can be toughened through blending with other polymers. In this study, PLLA/EGMA blends were prepared by melt blending with biodegradable poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and Poly(ethylene-co-glycidyl methacrylate) (EGMA). Blend compositions of PLLA/EGMA were 100/0, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25 and 0/100, respectively. The morphology and mechanical properties were characterized by FESEM, DMA, UTM and Izod impact tester. Throughout FESEM image, we observed that domain was well diffused into matrix. DMA and Izod impact test data show that storage modulus of room temperature with increasing EGMA content decreased, and impact strength increased. The tensile strength and flexural modulus were decreased with increasing the content of EGMA in them.

용융 블렌딩법에 의한 PPC/EVAc 블렌드의 모폴로지 및 열적 특성

PPC (Polypropylene carbonate) has been an charming green material due to containing carbon dioxide. PPC is made from copolymerization of CO2 with propylene oxide (PO) using a catalyst. However this polymer has fool mechanical property and relatively low glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal decomposition temperature. Therefore, we blended PPC and EVAc (ethylene vinyl acetate) with overall compositions to enhance mechanical property and thermal property. Mechanical property and thermal property of PPC/EVAc blends was investigated by DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer) and TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis) respectively. Compatibility of PPC/EVAc blends was proved by FESEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope). As a result, we could find all compositions of PPC/EVAc blends are immiscible. However we could see thermal stability is improved as EVAc content increased.

Butyllithium과 Hexyllithium을 이용한 다중벽 탄소나노튜브의 분산 특성 평가

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are difficult to disperse in solvents and polymer matrices. Therefore, CNTs have need to do modification from functional groups. In this study, to improve the CNT`s dispersion, we tried to modify the CNT`s surface by butyllithium and hexyllithium solution with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). To find the addition of small functional groups, we analyzed Raman spectrometer and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and used various solvents and investigated the dispersity. As a result, functional groups of attached the CNT`s surface are confirmed through Raman and TGA. A small amount of functionalized-MWNTs is dispersed only in chloroform and tetrahydrofuran.

LLDPE와 나노탄산칼슘으로 구성된 나노컴포지트의 결정화 거동 및 물성에 관한 연구

Noncomposite of LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) with different contents of inorganic nano CaCO3 particles were prepared. The behavior of nano CaCO3 crystals was investigated. It was shown that nano CaCO3 has typical hexagonal structure. And also it has vaterite and calcite crystal. Through X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements and UTM (Universal Testing Machine) test, it was found that as the contents of nano CaCO3 particles in noncomposite increase, the crystallization also increase, whereas the elongation property decrease.

Controllable structure of TiO2 powders were prepared using sulfate ion, and mesoporous TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by hydrothermal method using surfactant Pluronic-F68. The samples were characterized by XRD, TEM, N2-sorption, and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra. Photocatalytic activity of TiO2 materials was investigated by measuring the photodecomposition of congo red. In result, mesoprous TiO2 which has large surface area was found to exhibit better photocatalytic acticity.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) has attracted much attention for a long time since it shows wide range of application such as ultra-violet absorbents, photocatalysts, photo-detector, and transistors, due to its wide band gap (3.37 eV) and large exciton binding energy (60 mV). Wide varieties of synthesis techniques have thus been developed to produce this material in different forms. They are, for instance, sol-gel process, hydrothermal process, hydrothermal process, and chemical vapor deposition. The wide band gap of ZnO can be reduced by controllably introducing non-stoichiometry and/or appropriate dopants for actual application in photocatalysts working at visible range. Recently, doping of ZnO could be achieved by replacing Zn2+ions with the ions of elements of higher valency such as Ga, Al, Co and In, or with the ions of transition metals, which was inducing drastic changes in its electrical and optical properties. ZnO and Aluminum doped ZnO particles were prepared by polyol process in different conditions. The effect of zinc concentration and dopant on structural, morphological, optical properties was investigated.

In the zinc powder fabrication process, about 5 to 10 wt% of zinc powder were unfit for the criteria of painting industry. The flake type zinc powder was produced from the residual product of zinc dust. In this study, the zinc dust were crashed in the attrition mill. Also, the operating condition of milling process were studied.

As an inorganic component of shark teeth and some exoskeletons of molluscs, fluoroapatite, Ca10(PO4)6F2, is a highly relevant biomineral. Human teeth consist mainly of carbonated hydroxyapatite, Ca5-x(PO4CO3)3OH, and do not contain high levels of fluoride (overall less than 0.1 wt %); on the surface of human teeth, between 0.05 and 0.1 wt % fluoride was found. However, the interaction between fluoride and calcium phosphate is important to understand the formation and dental protection of teeth. In this paper we report the synthesis of fluroapatite of various size and chemical composition under simple and relatively mild reaction conditions. Precipitation method and ultrasonic method were used for the fabrication of fluorapatite. And various solutions were used to different shape of fluorapatite. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), the mechanism of how these structures formed was explored.

IrO2/Ti 전극을 이용한 염료폐수의 전기화학적 처리

The characteristics of electrochemical treatment of dye wastewater by IrO2/Ti electrode were studied. Textile industry is considered as one of the most polluting sectors in terms of effluent composition and volume of discharge. Effluents from textile industry are not only colored but also contain high amounts of organic compounds and dissolved solids. Especially, the azo dyes form the largest polluting group among the synthetic pigments. The electrochemical processes are compact and simple, and the rate of pollutants removal is very rapid compared with the other wastewater treatment processes. The removal of dye wastewater containing CI Direct blue 15 was studied by electrochemical treatment process.
